Environmental Policies stay!
Environmental Policies stay!
In recent days, we have witnessed the advancement in the National Congress of different projects for the destruction of socio-environmental policies in Brazil, which go against the grain of the world, directly affecting the Ministries of Indigenous Peoples and the Environment. Powerful sectors represented by a large group of deputies and senators who have no commitment to our life, with the right to exist of native peoples and with respect for our biodiversity. They represent the predatory mentality of a Brazil that was built through deforestation, the indiscriminate degradation of the land, all of this done through a sad history of expulsion and extermination of native and traditional peoples. A mentality that today attacks everyone's life and the climate of the planet – from a history that we don't want to repeat, we want to leave behind.
On the other hand, we have the possibility of thinking about the country that knows, for example, that Floresta em Pé means guaranteeing food and water for the population and that respect for the ways of life, cultures and the right to land of indigenous peoples is the way to build a more resilient society to climate change.
There are several setbacks proposed in recent times. Some of them, such as the attacks by MP1150 against the Atlantic Forest Law and against provisions of the Forest Code, directly affect our mission at Associação Ambientalista Copaíba, that is, our commitment to conserving and restoring the Atlantic Forest in the basins of the Peixe and Camanducaia rivers. . But there are also other setbacks, such as the dismantling of the Ministry of the Environment, removing the Rural Environmental Registry (CAR), the National Water Agency (ANA) and the National Systems for Solid Waste, Sanitation and Water Resources from its portfolio; and the Ministry of Indigenous Peoples, which loses the power to demarcate indigenous lands through MP1154, in addition to PL 490 that wants to impose the Temporal Mark, placing the 1393 indigenous lands, that is, all that exist in the country, under direct threat.
It is in nobody's interest that these errors prosper. We count on the common sense and public commitment of deputies and senators to revert these problems, and we call on everyone to mobilize, share and participate in the acts that are being programmed, in particular, a great act that will take place next Sunday, the 18th. June, starting at 3 pm on Avenida Paulista in São Paulo, which will be joined by Associação Ambientalista Copaíba and other important Organizations, movements, researchers and specialists. In this way, we will demonstrate that no social, environmental and climatic setback will be accepted without our struggle and our resistance.
