Copaíba wins an award of great national importance.
“We are a team, formed by 10 women and two men. Our daily work is dedicated to a cause of positive social and environmental impacts! Our income is the result of the noble mission of conserving and restoring the Atlantic Forest in the basins of the Peixe and Camanducaia rivers.
We give life to the work that the Associação Ambientalista Copaíba carries out and we are very happy, proud and satisfied, knowing that many people recognize the importance and seriousness of our work. Winning one of the biggest awards in Brazil opens many doors, motivates us and confirms that we are on the right path and that following our mission is worth it”. comments Lígia Soares, collaborator.

With the objective of encouraging actions that contribute to the conservation of biodiversity, the promotion and dissemination of traditional and scientific knowledge and the promotion of sustainable development in the Atlantic Forest area, the National Council of the Atlantic Forest Biosphere Reserve, recognized by UNESCO, created the Muriqui Award, today recognized as one of the most important tributes to environmental actions in the country.
The awardees chosen through the vote of the members of the National Council, are given only two awards annually. One for individuals and the other for public and private, national or international entities that have stood out for their activities for the benefit of the Atlantic Forest.
Copaíba was named in 2020 and delivery took place in the first half of 2021. Muriqui is the largest primate in the Americas, threatened with extinction by the reduction of forest areas, hunting and diseases transmitted by other animals. It was chosen as a symbol of the RBMA – Atlantic Forest Biosphere Reserve.
