Ecological Restoration

Ecological Restoration

We transform degraded areas into forested areas.
Thus, we bring back native flora, wild fauna, conserving biodiversity, water, soil and quality of life.

THE Atlantic forest of the Camanducaia and Peixe river basins is seriously threatened, with only 12.4% of the original forest remaining. The devastation of the forests has generated drastic impacts in this region such as imbalance in ecosystems, soil degradation and the reduction of water quality and quantity.

THE ecological restoration is already known as an effective solution between the landowners of the two basins. Copaíba provides technical support and seedlings of native trees for planting and executing Technical Projects.

What we want

Make landowners and the local community aware of the importance of conservation and restoration of native forests for society's quality of life and for biodiversity conservation.

Support landowners to restore native forests and river sources on their properties, with responsibility and transparency, combining the values and commitments of our partners.

how we act

  • We execute technical restoration projects for each property and provide support to owners interested in restoring their degraded areas, recovering the surroundings of springs and the banks of streams and rivers, from technical guidance for planting to maintenance and care of the area undergoing ecological restoration, in partnership with the owners.
  • We mobilize a network of partners and resources from different sources of funding for the restoration of forests
  • We carry out the technical visit to the property and the restoration plan for the area, considering the owner's objectives with the land.
  • We train and support the maintenance of the areas.

Benefits of Ecological Restoration

More than complying with environmental legislation, by restoring the forest on your property with Copaíba you have several benefits:

  • Complete project specific to each area, with species indications and how to prepare the soil to get your hands dirty
  • Different formats of support and available inputs, according to the characteristics and location of each area
  • Support in implementation and monitoring by experienced technicians
  • Planting trees makes it possible to recover water and soil fertility in degraded areas, adding value to the property
  • Indication for a more sustainable and productive restoration process, for example taking advantage of sloped areas
  • Partnership with an organization recognized in Brazil and internationally for its work with ecological restoration

How to participate

Adopt a Forest

Your company can make a positive impact on society by sponsoring transformation of degraded areas into forests through ecological restoration. Discover the opportunities and benefits!

friend of nature

As an individual, you can offset the environmental impact of your CO2 emissions. The best strategy to do this is to plant trees, which absorb CO2 from the atmosphere, reducing the greenhouse effect and lowering the planet's temperature. Copaíba plants trees for you! Contribute to the monthly planting of trees and become a Friend of Nature.

partnership program

Your company can collaborate with activities for the conservation and restoration of the Atlantic Forest, monitor the results, have marketing opportunities and strengthen ESG practices. In addition to increasing its positive impact on society and the planet.
Recurring partner companies receive an annual support certificate and the right to use the Copaíba support seal, among other benefits.

gift tree

Everyone wins when you give or receive trees as a gift. As a birthday person, you can make your campaign to win planted trees. If you want to gift someone, any reason or date is the right time to gift trees. Copaíba takes orders, plants your seedlings in the rainy season and takes care of transforming your trees for you!

How does the Restoration happen?

The projects are carried out in collaboration between Copaíba and the rural landowner, with resources from investors, companies and taxpayers.

  1. (Copaiba) Fundraising, negotiation with partners and seedling production.
  2. (Owner) Shows interest, makes contact with Copaíba to register the property.
  3. (Copaiba) Copaíba team analyzes and indicates the projects to the owner where your property fits, taking into account the location, potential for forest connectivity, the importance of soil conservation, especially on hilltops, around springs and banks of streams and rivers.
  4. (Owner) Owner flags the ways they are interested in participating.
  5. (Copaiba) Conducts a technical visit to the property to explain the details of the project.
  6. (Copaiba) Development of the technical project, according to the needs of the owners and land use in each area.
  7. (Owner) Owner evaluates and validates the proposed project.
  8. (Owner) and (Copaiba) Signing of a contract to enter into a partnership, with descriptions of the care and the necessary involvement of the owner in the development of the project, as well as the consequences of not complying and the costs.
  9. (Owner) Isolate the area, surrounding it if necessary (for example: presence of cattle/horses); Preparation for planting (mowing, crowning and soil preparation).
  10. (Owner) Delivery of seedlings and materials foreseen in the project
  11. (Owner) and (Copaiba) Planting of the seedlings
    1. (Owner) Maintenance of the planted area with irrigation, crowning the seedlings, controlling the grass and leaf-cutting ants, for at least two years
    2. (Copaiba) Technical monitoring the development of trees and the results generated by reforestation, in regenerating ecosystems
  12. (Copaiba) Monitoring of areas: development of seedlings or trees, emergence of natural regeneration (one of the indicators is unexposed, covered soil), presence of birds/fauna in areas undergoing restoration.
  13. (Copaiba) Continuity of support in the management of the Conservation Unit, sharing information on how to keep the seedlings healthy and expand the area.

sponsored programs

501 charity with a mission to help global reforestation efforts. The organization is built on a network of individuals, businesses, and schools who donate money or volunteer to help plant trees around the world. By 2024, Copaíba has planted over 200 hectares (480 acres) with 298,000 seedlings in partnership with One Tree Planted and landowners.

State Water Resources Fund – Its objective is to finance programs and actions in the area of water resources, in order to promote the improvement and protection of water bodies and their hydrographic basins. Altogether, Copaíba has already carried out projects for 16 FEHIDRO contracts.

In order to be able to execute the program, an analysis was developed that highlights the main areas for restoration, focusing on water conservation. Through local partnerships, the program seeks to mobilize and support landowners located in these areas and together carry out the restoration of their springs and streams.

Program created by WWF Brazil and Sylvamo, and in partnership with Copaíba, has already restored, by 2024, 121.7 hectares with the planting of 278 thousand seedlings, extending until 2025, with the objective of restoring degraded areas around springs and banks of watercourses in the Rio do Peixe basin and its tributaries, collaborating for the conservation of water resources.

Tree-Nation uses its own technology to facilitate the planting of trees, enabling individuals and companies to participate in reforestation projects. Reforestation projects are available on one platform. Each tree on the Tree-Nation platform is assigned its own unique URL, which means it can be gifted and tracked as it grows. Tree-Nation members have a “forest”, which is a custom environment on the platform to see all the trees they have planted. These trees are linked to a certain amount of CO2 offset and can be traced.

The Verde Mel Project is an initiative to manage native stingless bees from the Atlantic Forest, and is part of the Raízes do Mogi Guaçu Program, a partnership between the companies Sylvamo, Reenvolver and Copaíba.

Through the training of farmers, multiplication of bee colonies is carried out. In this way, in addition to a new generation of income in the countryside, with the sustainable management of bees, the productive chains of honey, pollen, wax and propolis are strengthened.

The Project also has research centers and specialized laboratories, carrying out studies on the nutritional and functional characteristics of the products; and partnerships with cooks and chefs, encouraging the development of recipes with products from native bees.

“At our company, we believe that the future depends on the actions we take today. That is why we are proud to support Copaíba in its excellent work of restoring native forests and river sources. It is an honor to be alongside such a professional environmental association, which presents impactful and positive results for our planet.”
