Copaíba Environmental Association and José Franco Craveiro Asylum: 11 years of partnership

Published On: 27 de September de 2016

The José Franco Craveiro Asylum, in 2005, ceded an area on its property through a loan to make room for Copaíba's environmental actions. It was 11 years of partnership. Thanks to this support, a lot of work has been carried out and numerous environmental achievements have been achieved. It was in the area provided by the Asylum that important events marked the history of Copaíba.

After the installation of the Forest Nursery in the Asilo area, Copaíba took a huge leap in the production process of its native tree seedlings. Production increased from 4,000 seedlings in 2000 to more than 30,000 seedlings in 2006, one year after the Nursery was inaugurated. In that same place, until then, more than 1,600,000 seedlings were produced. All of them are intended for projects to recover new forests in the region.

In addition to the production of seedlings, more than 8,000 students visited Copaíba and Viveiro Florestal during this period. All of them participating in activities that made them aware of the importance of conservation and restoration of the Atlantic Forest.

At the time when the Asilo gave the space to the NGO, financial and material resources were raised by Copaíba itself, for the construction of its headquarters and the Forest Nursery.

Today, with its own area, Copaíba returns to the José Franco Craveiro Asylum, with enormous gratitude, the keys and the infrastructure built on the property.

The positive results and important moments that Copaíba has had over the years are immeasurable. “We will be eternally grateful for the grandiose and generous gesture of the directors and representatives of the Asylum”, thanks emotional Gerson Silveira, President of Copaíba.

Gratitude is reciprocal. The Asylum warmly welcomed the institution. “We were happy to have Copaíba as a partnership for so many years – this institution that carries out an important work in our municipality”, comments Irani Tafner, President of the José Franco Craveiro Asylum.
