There are several areas in the process of forest restoration, implemented by the Environmentalist Association Copaíba. To date, there are 17 forest conservation and restoration projects carried out by the institution. Most of these projects receive resources from FEHIDRO (State Water Resources Fund).

Together, these projects are contributing to the formation of more than 3,000,000m2 of new forests. Each area that is being recovered receives technical support from the Secretary of State for the Environment, more specifically from the Coordination of Biodiversity and Natural Resources (CBRN). It is the technicians of this state agency who inspect the areas undergoing restoration, to monitor and verify that everything is being carried out correctly and in accordance with the approved proposal.

Recently, CBRN was visiting two areas that are being recovered by Copaíba. One of them refers to the project “Restoration of riparian forests of springs and watercourses phases III and IV” (contract Fehidro 092/2011 – MOGI 294), which is being finalized and the other area visited belongs to the project “Forest restoration of springs and tributary streams of the Rio do Peixe” (Fehidro contract 186/2015 – MOGI 476). Both aim to conserve the sources of the Rio do Peixe basin.

After the CBRN inspection, a technical report is issued. If approved, new financial installments are released and thus, the forest restoration work can continue. “The on-site monitoring of the CBRN technical team gives transparency to the work being carried out by Copaíba. They are discerning and demanding in relation to positive results in the areas. This is excellent, as it gives us support and guarantees that we are on the right path”, comments Ana Paula Balderi, coordinator of Forest Restoration at the institution.
