Neighbors unite for the reforestation of properties in Munhoz
Forest restoration has become a topic among landowners in the region, many are looking for ways to take care of forests and also restore deforested areas. With that in mind, owner Luiz Carlos contacted Copaíba to participate in Verde Novo, a project sponsored by Petrobras through the Petrobras Socioambiental program.
After retiring, Luiz decided to find a quiet corner to live with his family and chose Munhoz, a city he had known for some time. “I was born in Goiás and as a teenager I went to São Paulo, where I discovered my vocation in teaching. I worked as a teacher, coordinator for 36 years and completed my master's degree in ecology, which sparked my interest in nature even more,” says the owner.
Luiz didn't have enough area to plant the seedlings, so he spoke to the neighbors who had been talking for some time about the importance of conserving the forests in the region that need to be preserved and restored. Neighbors João and Laerte agreed to participate in the project and 1,200 seedlings were planted on the properties in February this year and more seedlings will be planted in the next rainy season.
The owner talks excitedly about the areas that are being restored “We planted in a great period, the seedlings are magnificent and some are over a meter long. Recovering forests means recovering water, it means improving coexistence with neighbors. It is an exercise in finding yourself again and thinking about the collectivity, it is the sum of a planet with more flowers, more bees and better quality of life for everyone”.
Many owners can benefit like Luiz, João and Laércio. Contact (19) 9 99538382 or register at site to restore and protect the springs on your property. The Verde Novo project is carried out by Copaíba, which has been working for almost 20 years for the restoration and conservation of the Atlantic Forest of the Rio do Peixe and Rio Camanducaia basins, which are between municipalities in the South of Minas and East of São Paulo.
