Farm hotel owner in Serra Negra planted 5,000 seedlings

Serra Negra is one of the municipalities in which Copaíba has significantly reforested degraded areas through the Verde Novo project sponsored by Petrobras through the Petrobras Socioambiental program. Equally important to restoration is the awareness and awareness of adults and children for nature conservation. Francisco, owner of the Hotel Fazenda Santa Maria also located in Serra Negra, is among those people who were touched by the project.

The property, which has always belonged to the owner's family, has already provided different sources of income and one of them was coffee production. Francisco gradually built the hotel amidst the fields and replaced the coffee trees with trees native to the Atlantic Forest to increase the fragment of forest that already existed on the property. “I believe that to really be a farm hotel it is necessary to provide this experience for guests. We have to be connected with the environment and for that I keep planting trees on the property and I count on the support of my family to provide special moments for those who wear us” comments Francisco.

5,000 seedlings were planted on the property with the support of Verde Novo, which after 5 years continues to monitor the area. Project Field Technician Jayson Pelatieri told of the significant changes taking place on the property “It was quite satisfying to see that the Forest Restoration project on Mr. Francisco reached the expected indicators. During the visit, we noticed that the ecological succession of the species is already happening, which is very good because it feeds the expectation that the forest will be perpetuated. We are pleased with the results achieved so far!”

Owner Francisco says that reforestation also brought shelter for wild animals. “Before, we didn't used to see many animals on the property and today they have the forest as a shelter. We have already spotted paca, agouti and other animals in the midst of the trees. Guests also have the privilege of experiencing these moments, we built a trail for them to visit our forest”.
