Projects sponsored by Petrobras promote planting throughout Brazil in celebration of World Forest Day
Copaíba participates in this national action, through the Verde Novo project
Forest and Climate Network (RFC) projects carry out symbolic planting of thousands of tree species in commemoration of the International Day of Forests celebrated worldwide on March 21. The act, orchestrated by projects sponsored by Petrobras, through the Petrobras Socio-environmental Program, takes place in several regions of the country on the date in which the importance of forests is reinforced not only for climate regulation, but also for the maintenance of life on the planet. The action aims to make people aware of the fundamental importance of forests, involving children, adolescents, young people, university students, people with disabilities, traditional communities and indigenous peoples.
The network activity is the result of the integration of the Ar Água and Terra Projects: Guarani Life and Culture (RS), De Olho na Água (CE), Florestas de Valor (PA), Guapiaçu Grande Vida (RJ), Verde Novo (MG and SP), Viveiro Cidadão (RO), Uruçu Capixaba (ES) and Semeando Água (SP).
The action in commemoration of World Forestry Day has a digital campaign on the social networks of the participating projects with the hashtag #florestaeclima.
On the date, in addition to planting, the Verde Novo Project will promote an event to launch the technical report on the importance of forest fragments for maintaining the functional connectivity of the Peixe and Camanducaia river basins and will inaugurate the Private Natural Heritage Reserve - RPPN Copaíba, in Socorro/SP.
The Verde Novo Project is carried out by Associação Ambientalista Copaíba and aims to contribute to the restoration and conservation of the Atlantic Forest of the hydrographic basins of the Peixe and Camanducaia rivers, located between the south of Minas Gerais and the east of the State of São Paulo, covering 18 counties. By supporting landowners in the region, more than 260 hectares are being restored through the planting of 400,000 seedlings. Through public policy actions and environmental education, Verde Novo seeks to sensitize both rural producers and students living in the region about the importance of conservation and restoration of the Atlantic Forest.
The Projects that are part of the Network believe that involving people in actions such as this one is essential to sensitize them and make them aware of their relationship with nature and the importance of preserving and recovering forests.
