Production of Native Seedlings
Production of Native Seedlings
Projeto Verde Novo is in the final stretch for the 2019 plantations
Viveiro Florestal Copaíba is producing seedlings in full swing for the last plantings of 2019 of the Verde Novo project sponsored by Petrobras through the Petrobras Socio-environmental program. There are more than 120 species native to the Atlantic Forest produced throughout the year.
The production of seedlings is done through the collection of seeds from the forests of the region, many of them are on properties that have already participated in the project. The trees from which the seeds are collected are marked with the GPS and receive a numbered plate so that they can be identified in the future. After being collected, the seeds go to the Copaíba Forest Nursery and the seed processing process begins, where different techniques are performed for each type of seed or fruit.
In these almost 9 years of Verde Novo, more than 400 thousand seedlings were produced and made available free of charge for planting in partner properties that signed up for the project. This December, around 10,000 seedlings will be planted in the municipalities of Bueno Brandão (MG), Toledo (MG), Socorro (SP) and Amparo (SP).
