Atlantic Forest Plan
Atlantic Forest Plan
Socorro City Hall and Copaíba partner to review the plan
The Secretariat for the Environment and Sustainable Development of the Municipality of Socorro together with the Environmentalist Association Copaíba met on July 18 to discuss the updating and revision of the Municipal Atlantic Forest Plan of the municipality. The plan, as foreseen in the Atlantic Forest Law (Law nº 11.428/06, the Atlantic Forest Law), the municipalities must assume their part in the protection of the biome through actions foreseeing the recovery of degraded areas and allowing a conciliation between the development of the municipality and the sustainability of the identified areas.
The Secretary of Environment and Sustainable Development Henrique Cézar, together with Ana Paula and Flávia Balderi from Copaíba, were able to count on guidance regarding the roadmap for reviewing the plan by Beloyanis Monteiro from SOS Mata Atlântica and Mariana Gianiaki from ANAMA (National Association of Organs Environment Municipalities). Mayor André Bozola was also present at the meeting.
Copaíba is already carrying out the recovery of properties in the region through the Projeto Verde Novo sponsored by Petrobras through the Petrobras Socio-environmental program and with the review of the plan, the public authorities will be able to implement public policies aimed at preservation, thus facilitating the work that already being carried out by the project.
It was decided that the review of the plan would be participatory and should include community involvement. The working group that has been coordinated by Copaíba and City Hall will publish a public consultation with the objective of gathering information and raising awareness among the population. Owners interested in participating in the Verde Novo project and helping to reforest their properties with native Atlantic Forest trees can register through the site or contact us by number (19) 9 99538382.
