Seedlings planted in the sources of Rio do Peixe receive care
A little over a year ago, the project “Forest Restoration of springs and tributary streams of the Rio do Peixe” was started, carried out by the Copaíba Environmental Association, with financial resources from FEHIDRO (State Fund for Water Resources of the State of São Paulo), through of the Mogi Guaçu River Basin Committee.
This project aims to contribute to the restoration of riparian forests in the Rio do Peixe basin, an important tributary of the Mogi Guaçu River. To carry out this work, Copaíba has the support of the Clickarvore Program of Fundação SOS Mata Atlântica.
The planting of native seedlings started some time ago and will soon have a new stage. But the seedlings that are already planted need care and Copaíba's technical team is monitoring the maintenance activities that end this week.
For the planted seedlings to develop well, some periodic actions are necessary, such as the control of leaf-cutting ants and control of the grass, which competes with the native seedling. In addition, tree seedlings are fertilized so they can grow strong and healthy.
In total, more than 16 thousand seedlings of native Atlantic Forest trees will be planted, which will contribute to the restoration of 10 hectares, around three springs and on the banks of three tributary streams of the Peixe River.
