The municipality of Bueno Brandão has become participatory and present in terms of environmental restoration. Since last year (2018), the number of landowners interested in reforesting their rural properties has increased. One of these owners is João Armando Lopes de Oliveira.

João got to know the city of Bueno Brandão on a trip with his family “I came to walk around the city and I was enchanted by the mountains and landscapes. When I had the opportunity, I bought the land. Now, after a few years, he wanted to reforest the property, even before building. There was almost no forest around here.”

João got to know, through a neighbor, an initiative that supports landowners in forest restoration. The action is carried out by Verde Novo, a project carried out by Copaíba, sponsored by Petrobras, through the Petrobras Socio-environmental Program. The neighbor, who has already participated in the project, received the native seedlings, supplies and all technical advice to recover the forest on the property.

It was along the same path that João managed to plant 2,100 seedlings of native Atlantic Forest trees in an area of 2.1 hectares on his property. João received technical support for the preparation of the area, guidance on the day of planting and for two years he will have follow-up and guidance on how to care for the seedlings until they are already big and no longer need care.

The Verde Novo project has already reforested more than 230 hectares of forest. This initiative to support seedling planting continues and any interested landowner can participate. Get in on site of the project and learn how to participate.
