Verde Novo, a project carried out by Copaíba, sponsored by Petrobras, through the Petrobras Socio-environmental Program, is already supporting the forest restoration of several properties in the region.

Recently new trees are being planted in the neighborhood of Tabaranas de Baixo, in the municipality of Serra Negra/SP. The partner property of this action belongs to Diego Froes e Souza, who, motivated to conserve the water from the four springs on the property, sought Copaíba's support for forest recovery in the surroundings of these areas. The proposal is to recover 25,000 m2 of area, totaling the planting of more than 6,000 seedlings of trees native to the Atlantic Forest.

Work is starting now and will be carried out in stages. The first 1,000 seedlings have already been planted and are growing on site. Soon, a new forest will be forming. In addition to protecting water, the forest will help wild animals to take refuge and feed. The soil will be protected and the property will be environmentally suitable, with its Permanent Preservation Areas recovered.

Diego's will and initiative, supported by Copaíba, gain strength and this is how forest restoration takes place, reducing costs, sharing experiences and lessons learned. Added to this action, Diego also intends to implement an SAF (Agroforestry System) on the property, further contributing to nature conservation.

The planting of Verde Novo has already started and so has the registration! Registration is open to small and large properties that, together, make a difference in the conservation of the Atlantic Forest.

How to participate

Landowners in the region interested in recovering the forests on their properties can contact Copaíba to receive support. Registration is done at the institution's headquarters. A visit is scheduled for evaluation and elaboration of the technical project. After evaluating the area, Copaíba technicians also offer guidance before, during and after planting, making several visits to the property.

The seedlings are delivered to the partner properties, already fertilized, avoiding this cost to the owner. In addition to the seedlings, the owners also receive inputs to help with planting, such as hydrogel and ant to control ants.

Contact can be made by phone (19) 99953-8382 or by email to [email protected], or at the institution's headquarters, located in the Pedra Branca/Visconde do Soutelo neighborhood, in Socorro – SP.
