More than 1.2 million seedlings planted to protect the waters of the Mantiqueira Mountains in the Camanducaia and Peixe River Basins.

The ecological restoration actions carried out over these 26 years by Copaiba Environmental Association and partners aim to expand forest cover and protect the waters of the Mantiqueira, guaranteeing water resources in both basins.

The work of Restoration of the Atlantic Forest in the Camanducaia and Peixe River Basins has generated significant results in the recovery of springs, streams, rivers, and degraded areas. Operating in 19 municipalities, 13 in the State of São Paulo and 6 in the State of Minas Gerais, the actions carried out by Copaiba, These initiatives have already resulted in the planting of over 1.2 million seedlings and the restoration of hundreds of hectares of native forests, directly contributing to improved water quality and availability.

Among the municipalities with the largest areas undergoing restoration are Socorro, Itapira, and Serra Negra, which together account for more than 550 hectares under recovery.

In total, we are supporting more than 300 landowners committed to the conservation of their areas and the future of regional water resources, distributed across 15 municipalities in the region. Camanducaia and Peixe basins, totaling 1,258 springs.

These numbers reveal the regional scope of the work, which integrates municipalities in southern Minas Gerais and eastern São Paulo around the same objective: to restore the Atlantic Forest and to protect the waters of the Mantiqueira mountain range, guaranteeing water in river basins.

Reforested areas are revitalizing riverbanks and springs, improving water infiltration into the soil, reducing erosion, and maintaining more stable flows in rivers and streams, even during periods of drought. The restoration of native vegetation around springs is essential for filtering water, preventing siltation, and preserving the water sources that supply communities and rural properties.

In addition to the environmental benefits, the work has strengthened the engagement of rural landowners, who voluntarily participate in restoration efforts.
