The Fundação SOS Mata Atlântica, held last Monday (27) the “Viva a Mata”, a national event in commemoration of the Atlantic Forest.

This year, the event's program was extended throughout the month of May, which ended on the day of the Atlantic Forest in a ceremony. Representatives of the “Environment” portfolio from several Brazilian states, former President Fernando Henrique Cardoso, Federal Deputy José Sarney Filho, were present and the ceremony was conducted by Sandra Annenberg and Ernesto Paglia.

During the ceremony, some people were honored based on their life stories and dedication to the Atlantic Forest and four themes were selected by SOS itself, to represent its different fronts of action: Restoration of the Forest, Valorization of Parks and Reserves, Água Limpa and Sea Protection. To represent the theme “Forest Restoration” in the Atlantic Forest biome, Ana Paula and Flávia Balderi were nominated and received the honor. “It was an honor to receive this honor and to be able to represent the female gender in forest restoration, which, like many other sectors, is still predominantly led by men”, said Ana Paula.

The stories shown at the event served as inspiration at a difficult time for environmental issues in the country. “We were honored for almost 20 years dedicated to the restoration of the Atlantic Forest. An important recognition not only of our history, but also of all the work that Copaíba does”, commented Flávia Balderi.
