Discover the story of Bernadette Mosken who inspires people to reforest their properties
Bernadette has always been concerned with environmental issues. “In the square, which was in front of my house in São Paulo, I planted many tree seedlings. Some people stepped on it, pulled it up and even then I kept planting. If 50 seedlings of the 100 I had planted survived, I would already be making a profit”, comments the owner.
The desire to reforest came with her from São Paulo, so she started to get information and seek support and guidance on planting seedlings. He commented on the interest with the mason who was building his house and through him he learned about Verde Novo, a project carried out by Copaíba, with the sponsorship of Petrobras, through the Petrobras Socio-environmental Program that supports landowners in the region for forest restoration.
Also in 2016, with the support of the project, Bernadete began to reforest the property with seedlings of trees native to the Atlantic Forest. What was once a pasture for livestock, began to become a forest. Today, the property has more than 1,400 seedlings, which were gradually planted by the owner and some employees. It is already possible to notice the difference of the terrain before and after, the forest is already forming.
“As soon as the forest started to form, I immediately noticed the difference. Before, I used the neighbor's water to supply my house. Today, the spring, which was dry, has water again and in another part of the property, which used to be a marsh due to cattle ranching, a small stream has formed”, says Bernadete.
In addition to the benefits for the site, little by little it also sensitized neighbors, employees and created an awareness network. Many make seedlings from the seeds of trees in the Bernadette forest and plant them on their properties. The owner speaks with great pride and emotion about the work she has carried out with the support of Verde Novo “Planting these trees on my property may seem like a drop in the ocean, but it is my drop. If everyone does a little, it will become a lot. We have to think globally and act locally.”
Through Projeto Verde Novo, more landowners are planting and benefiting and you can benefit your property too! To find out more, go to site or call (19) 9 9953-8382.
