Copaíba receives international visit from ECOSIA

Published On: 2 de October de 2017

Last week, Copaíba received a visit from the international team of ECOSIA, accompanied by members of the Pact for the Restoration of the Atlantic Forest.

This group's visit is the result of the approval of a Copaíba forest restoration project in the “Campaign to leverage restoration projects in the Brazilian Atlantic Forest”, promoted by the Pact for the Restoration of the Atlantic Forest. The Campaign aims to contribute to the restoration production chain by supporting executive planting projects with the potential to gain scale, and which include people within possible socioeconomic opportunities. “More than 600,000 seedlings planted have already been supported by the Campaign. We will quickly reach our goal of 2 million seedlings”, comments the General Coordinator of the Pact, Severino Rodrigo Ribeiro Pinto – Biu.

The major sponsor of this initiative is ECOSIA, an online search company based in Germany that works within the concepts and premises of “sustainable business”, which finances conservation actions in global biodiversity hotspots.

Both ECOSIA and the Pact were in Socorro, visiting the headquarters and the Copaíba Forest Nursery. “I have visited more than 20 nurseries all over the world. I am impressed with the organization and beauty of the place. It is one of the most organized nurseries I have ever seen”, says Dutchman Pieter Van Midwoud, Ecologist responsible for the tree plantations supported by ECOSIA.

The group's visit aimed to get to know Copaíba, as an institution supported by the campaign. In addition, the visit extended to the area where the planted seedlings received support.

Of the 16,200 seedlings planted in one of the Copaíba forest restoration areas, in the Rio do Peixe neighborhood, in Socorro, 7,750 seedlings received support from the Campaign. “This resource will be very welcome to contribute to the maintenance actions of the seedlings that are being developed”, emphasizes the Forest Restoration Coordinator at Copaíba, Ana Paula Balderi.

The team was satisfied with what they saw and praised the result of Copaíba's work. “For us, receiving so much praise and mentions of support from both the Pact and ECOSIA is extremely meaningful and motivating. We are flattered by the recognition of our work. Both left here proud of our actions”, comments Flávia Balderi, Executive Secretary of Copaíba.

The entire visit was recorded and recorded. Soon a video will be released about the action taken.
