Copaíba recently signed a new contract with Petrobras for the continuity of the Verde Novo project. The main objective of Verde Novo is to contribute to the restoration and conservation of the Atlantic Forest of the Peixe and Camanducaia river basins. Through this project, Copaíba has already supported more than 160 landowners in the region of the Peixe and Camanducaia river basins. More than 170 thousand seedlings were planted.

Now, with the new sponsorship from Petrobras, Verde Novo is gaining strength and there is a lot of work ahead. The total value of the sponsorship is R$ 1,339,677.81 plus R$ 292,378.40 of institutional counterpart, totaling R$1,632,065.21.

For the next two years, the project plans to plant another 150,000 seedlings of native trees and continue to support landowners interested in restoring their forests.

A mapping of the native vegetation of the entire region will be carried out. This study aims to identify areas with potential for the formation of ecological corridors, aiming at the connectivity of existing or in formation forest fragments. The map will be used both to contribute to the definition of new areas to be restored by the project, and to stimulate other forest restoration actions taking place in the region.

Other planned actions, in order to meet the demand for forest restoration, is to adapt and equip the Copaíba Forest Nursery for its expansion. 400,000 seedlings of more than 100 species of trees native to the Atlantic Forest will be produced.

In addition to the production of seedlings and support for forest restoration, Verde Novo has environmental education actions. At least 3,500 students living in the Peixe and Camanducaia river basins will be affected.
