THE Copaiba, in partnership with Think Human Fund, funded by Concentrix, [Company Name], a leading global technology and services company that supports nonprofit organizations focused on climate resilience and education, launched the... project “"Youth for the Atlantic Forest"”, which will work with 600 elementary school students from public schools in the municipalities of Monte Alegre do Sul, Pinhalzinho and Socorro, offering theoretical and practical experiences to address the climate crisis and fostering a culture of conservation in the Camanducaia River basin.

Camanducaia River Basin

O project It was designed to take place in cities belonging to the Camanducaia River basin, which faces a critical conservation situation, with only 4.6% of native vegetation remaining, according to 2023 data provided by SOS Mata Atlântica and INPE, the National Institute for Space Research. 

Decades of deforestation, inappropriate land use, and the removal of riparian forests have caused erosion, siltation of rivers, and significant loss of biodiversity, compromising water availability and quality. In addition, the climate crisis has made the region even more vulnerable to climatic events such as extreme droughts, wildfires, and flash floods.

According to Flávia Balderi, executive secretary of Copaiba, There is a clear need for ongoing educational initiatives in the region.
