Copaíba is part of the “Trinational Atlantic Forest Pact”, one of the 10 initiatives chosen by the UN as a World Restoration Reference
The “Trinational Atlantic Forest Pact” was declared one of the UN's 10 World Restoration Landmark Initiatives! The announcement took place last Tuesday, December 13, during the 15th Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity, COP15, which takes place in Montréal, Canada.
The initiative, which encompasses movements and organizations in Argentina, Brazil and Paraguay, which includes the Associação Ambientalista Copaíba, was selected among more than 150 entries from 26 different countries, as one of the ten best examples of large-scale ecosystem restoration in Planet. The 10 initiatives chosen as world references, when added together, aim to restore more than 68 million hectares and should generate more than 15 million jobs.
“This is a very important moment, we are very happy for the recognition. But we are not alone in this mission, we need everyone's support, companies, people and governments, the future of the environment depends on society's awareness and cooperation. It has never been so important and essential to understand how the environment works and how we impact it, as it is our survival that is in danger with the warming that is taking place on the planet”, declares Ligia Soares, from Communication at Copaíba.
Recognized as a “hotspot” of biodiversity, as one of the priority regions for global conservation, the Atlantic Forest has also been named a Biosphere Reserve by Unesco. But this recognition, in addition to being a lever for restoration and an awakening of ecosystem functions and their importance for humanity, gives the biome the chance to gain priority from the UN to receive funding and technical support for restoration.
Copaíba congratulates all the initiatives that were recognized and appreciates the support of actors in the ecosystem restoration chain: owners, partner companies and employees. “We invite everyone to join efforts with us, ordering trees planted back in nature. Contact @aacopaiba or 19 99953 8382”, they close.
Repercussion
Soon after the announcement, Copaíba was contacted by Rede Globo, to compose the report on the Pact, telling how the work is possible and the impacts it causes on the Environment. The executive secretary, Flavia Balderi, was interviewed by the reporter Trigueiro, in the report that aired in Jornal Nacional on 12/14.
