Copaíba begins work on the new Forest Nursery
Expanding the production of tree seedlings of native species has always been one of Copaíba's goals. Since its first strategic plans, the institution aims, through its mission, to conserve and restore the Atlantic Forest of the Peixe and Camanducaia river basins. For this the production of seedlings is essential.
The production of seedlings is one of the main areas of activity of the institution. Since 2001, with the first seedlings produced, the concern with the conservation of regional biodiversity has accompanied the group's more technical discussions. Year by year production increases. The steps are taken according to the size of the legs and so the institution has been working with recognition and satisfaction for the results achieved.
Today, the Copaíba Forest Nursery has the capacity to produce 300,000 seedlings a year and has already produced more than 1,600,000 seedlings.
These seedlings contributed to the forest restoration of more than 300 thousand m2 of areas that are currently becoming forests.
Between plans and goals over almost 17 years, in 2014, Copaíba, in search of its own land to expand its actions in the region, was awarded with the donation of a private property of 56 thousand m2, located in the neighborhood of Pedra Branca. , in Socorro/SP. This donation reinforces society's recognition of the important role that the institution plays in improving the region's environmental quality.
Like many other plans already made, this is yet another great accomplishment. The Copaíba Forest Nursery will be implemented in a larger area, enabling the production of more seedlings and, consequently, the restoration of more forests.
The works are in the beginning and the forecast is until the end of May the production of native seedlings will already be carried out in the new nursery. Copaíba has had the voluntary support of several people and companies, including the Municipality of Socorro has also collaborated. Thanks to these contributions the new nursery will soon be up and running.
