Copaíba celebrates Volunteer Day with dozens of partners who support everything from planting seedlings to managing the organization

Volunteers from the Association show that dedication and solidarity can restore forests, protect springs and strengthen governance.

Established in Brazil in 1985, National Volunteer Day is celebrated on August 28th as a way to recognize and value the role of people who donate time, talent, and dedication to social and environmental causes. Since then, the date has become a landmark for reinforcing the importance of citizen participation in transforming society.

At the Copaíba Environmental Association, this voluntary contribution is an essential part of the organization's history and present. Whether through daily support of the Atlantic Forest native seedling nursery or serving on the organization's Board of Directors and Supervisory Board, volunteers play a strategic role in building a more sustainable future, as Flávia Balderi, Copaíba's executive secretary, explains. "At Copaíba, volunteers are the hands that plant trees and the minds that contribute to good governance, ensuring the continuity and credibility of our work."

Founded in 1999 by a group of friends concerned about the degradation of the Atlantic Forest in Socorro, São Paulo, Copaíba has established itself as a Civil Society Organization of Public Interest (OSCIP) operating in 19 municipalities in the eastern region of São Paulo state and southern Minas Gerais. Throughout its history, the association has achieved impressive results: over 4 million seedlings produced, 713 hectares of restored land, 300 partner rural landowners, and 40,000 participants in Environmental Education experiences. These results were only possible thanks to the combined efforts of the technical team, institutional partners, and, above all, volunteers.

On Volunteer Day, Copaíba celebrates each person who dedicates time and energy to supporting its initiatives, recognizing that each action, from planting a sapling to participating in management councils, is part of a larger movement in defense of the Atlantic Forest.

Those who wish to contribute can join Copaíba's team of volunteers, participating in activities at the nursery and helping with seedling planting. More information is available on the website. www.copaiba.org.br
