It is possible to live in harmony with nature!

In Monte Alegre Sul, at Fazenda Furquilha, Associação Rural Natureza was founded by a group of people who believed it was possible to develop a sustainable community. The idea was so successful that for almost 20 years the association has lived in harmony and respect with nature. In addition to carrying out selective collection activities, which send recyclable material to a cooperative in Amparo, the property also has important areas that maintain a balance between sustainability and development. They divided the property into three parts: residential area, agricultural area and area for environmental conservation.

Members of the association realized that it was necessary to increase the area of environmental conservation and take care of the springs on the property, so Luciana Piva, one of the associates, was responsible for contacting the Verde Novo project sponsored by Petrobras through the Petrobras Socioambiental program so that the area was enriched with more trees native to the Atlantic Forest.

Luciana says: “Whoever lives here is in tune with nature. We encourage members to build their homes with sunlight, rainwater harvesting and other sustainable means to help preserve the environment.” 4,000 seedlings of native trees were planted on the property through the project carried out by the NGO Copaíba. The planting was carried out in two stages: the first, in 2018, 1,000 seedlings were planted; in the second stage at the beginning of this year, another 3,000 seedlings were planted.

Luciana also says that in addition to the concern and care for the environment, the Association carries out social work “Today, an average of 35 families (associates) live on the farm, who voluntarily carry out activities once a month for the elderly and needy children. We also helped with the planting of seedlings, we organized a joint effort with the associates and collaborated with the first stage of reforestation”. The resident adds, “Green Novo is very important! Associates highly value the work being carried out by the project. We have a vision of a place to live with more positive than negative impacts.”
