On July 17th, the date on which “Forest Protector Day” is celebrated, Copaíba had a special participation in the “Alesp Cidadania” program. The interview was attended by Erika Xavier, the NGO's communications advisor, and Tatiana Terasin, environmental education coordinator, who shared the organization's trajectory and efforts in preserving the Atlantic Forest.

Founded in 1999 by four friends in the municipality of Socorro-SP, the NGO emerged in response to the alarming degradation of the region's riparian forests. The founders, driven by a passion for nature and the urgent need for action, mobilized efforts to restore degraded areas. The initiative grew, gaining support from volunteers and the support of other organizations committed to the environmental cause.

During the interview, Erika Xavier highlighted the importance of Copaíba's operations in the two basins (Peixe and Camanducaia) and the relevance of the NGO's ongoing work, which is recognized regionally, nationally and even globally. “The work that is carried out on a property impacts the community as a whole. A spring that is restored will supply water to several families, far beyond a space delimited by fences.”, he stated.

Tatiana Terasin, in turn, highlighted the importance of Environmental Education and detailed the actions developed by Copaíba. “All the internal spaces at the Copaíba headquarters are educational spaces, and always during a visit we will relate the importance of trees, the relationship with water and the roles of human beings. The need to conserve what little remains of the Atlantic Forest forests and change culture so that we have more and more generations that restore ecosystems.”, he explained.

The positive impact of Copaíba's actions is visible, not only in the recovery of forests, but also in community mobilization around the cause. Participation in the Alesp Cidadania program reinforces the importance of the work carried out and the need to continue joining efforts in spreading awareness to raise awareness among more people.

On “Forest Protector Day”, we celebrate not only forests, but also all those who are dedicated to protecting and restoring them for current and future generations.
