Copaíba carries out maintenance of areas undergoing forest restoration
Until today, more than 60 hectares of new forests are formed in the Rio do Peixe Basin with the work of Copaíba
It's not just planting. Taking care of seedlings after planting is essential to ensure the formation of new forests. It is in this phase, of “taking care” of the seedlings, that is, of maintenance, that is the project “Restoration of riparian forests of springs and water courses III”, executed by Copaíba.
This project began in 2011, with the planting of 6,250 seedlings in 5 ha. With resources from the State Water Resources Fund (FEHIDRO), contract 092/2011, MOGI Code 294 and the support of Fundação SOS Mata Atlântica, through the Clickarvore Program, the forest restoration of this area is being a success. In just over two years after planting the seedlings, the area had a good vegetation cover and today, after four years of planting, the trees already give the area the appearance of a forest in formation.
Located in Sítio Beira Rio, Bairro Rio do Peixe, in Socorro – SP, the area has been contributing to the balance in the relationship between man and nature, since in addition to this new forest, a forest remnant with just over 10 hectares is being conserved. Before, the property's cattle had access to this fragment and the natural regeneration that currently occupies the understory did not exist. These areas, together, border an important Conservation Unit (UC) in the municipality, the Private Reserve of Natural Heritage (RPPN) Parque Ecológico Anauá. Therefore, a forest massif is forming in the neighborhood.
Thus, Copaíba works for more forest restoration projects in the Rio do Peixe basin. The recovery of degraded areas reflects positively on the entire hydrographic basin, protecting water and society's quality of life, as it eliminates the risk of erosion, silting and contamination that affect and endanger rivers and, consequently, human health.
