Riverside of Peixe gains new seedlings
Copaíba recently planted seedlings of trees native to the Atlantic Forest on the property used by Kango Jango Park for rafting and other sports held in Rio o Peixe. Due to the lack of riparian vegetation, the river bank was collapsing and precisely to contain this problem, 150 seedlings were planted through the Verde Novo project carried out by Copaíba.
The initiative to reforest the riverbank came from the organizers of the canoeing event held at the beginning of the year. The non-profit event was attended by canoeists from several cities in Brazil and other countries and allocated the money raised through registration for the planting of seedlings and Kango Jango was one of the sponsors of the event and supporter for the reforestation of the area .
“At the beginning of the organization of the event, our intention was to bring together the group that likes to row down the Rio do Peixe and as it was a non-profit event, we thought that one of the ways to allocate the funds raised in the event registration would be for the river. There is nothing fairer than contributing to its preservation since it brings us so much joy, so we informed the participants that we would give our river a helping hand” comments Guilherme, one of the event organizers.
Francisco, owner of the park, better known as Kiko, also participated in the planting along with some employees and the organizer of the canoeing event. “We have already done other activities involving the environment at Kango Jango, I participated in the Verde Novo project and planted 400 seedlings. Everyone should plant some trees,” says Kiko.
The Verde Novo project is sponsored by Petrobras through the Petrobras Socio-environmental program and also has the support of several people and companies that collaborate in the reforestation of new areas between the Rio do Peixe and Rio Camanducaia Basins.
