What are we doing with our water?

What are we doing with our water?

March 22nd is World Water Day. An opportune moment to discuss and propose reflections on the most precious and indispensable asset for our survival.

It is common knowledge that forests are great producers of water and protectors of the entire hydrological cycle, for this reason, they are essential to guarantee water, in quantity and quality. It is the forest that protects the banks of rivers and springs, supplies the springs, prevents the loss of soil moisture, prevents erosion and silting, and also maintains air humidity and temperature.

There are many important functions that forests perform. Despite this knowledge being constantly addressed, the practice for the conservation and recovery of forests is still incipient. Published by many, but exercised by few.

We all have the right to an ecologically balanced environment and the duty to defend and preserve it for present and future generations - famous phrase from article 225 of the Federal Constitution of 1988. And what we have actually done to defend what is of common good? What have we been doing for the conservation and preservation of our springs?

These are questions that lead us to reflect on our role as citizens in fighting for this right, demanding, for example, from public bodies and the community, basic sanitation for all. But it is also our duty to do our part, ensuring improvements in the environmental quality of the city in which we live, of the neighborhood in which we live. Give good examples and practices of conservation and environmental protection.

Water conservation goes beyond protecting forests, it permeates sustainable soil management practices, conscious consumption, reduction and correct disposal of our waste, planting trees, saving energy, and many other practices related to simple actions of our day to day.

Water, forests, biodiversity are part of our lives. We are part of it and we have the challenge and responsibility to take care of this heritage.
