Monitoring restored areas in quarantine period
Monitoring restored areas in quarantine period
In 2019 and early 2020, Copaíba started the restoration of several areas of the projects carried out, but the NGO had its activities adapted and some even paused due to the quarantine to combat Covid-19 (coronavirus). Faced with the new world scenario, a new challenge began for the institution: how to monitor these areas in the restoration process following the rules and decree of the municipalities?
The institution found a solution with the support of partner owners. Mayra Flores, restoration coordinator, contacts the owners by message asking for information and they return with photos and videos of the areas. Assistance is also provided to resolve doubts about the procedures necessary for the care of the seedlings.
“Contact with the owners through messages has always happened, but at this moment it is essential for us to continue with the restoration work. Planted seedlings need constant monitoring. The owners, collaborating in this way, I can help with what should be done and evaluate the development of the seedlings”, comments Mayra.
The plantings are paused because in the period we are starting, autumn and winter, the lack of rain makes it difficult to care for the planted seedlings, making the restoration process laborious. If everything is normalized and the projects are underway, the restoration of new areas will take place from September this year.
