Copaíba assumes new forest restoration goal, through the Verde Novo project

A new sponsorship contract was recently signed between Copaíba and Petrobras. In this new phase of the Verde Novo project, the restoration of almost 100 hectares of areas (1 million m2) is planned. The main objective of Verde Novo is to contribute to the restoration and conservation of the Atlantic Forest of the Peixe and Camanducaia river basins.

The proposal is to form partnerships with landowners in the region, joining forces and sharing costs for the recovery of new forests.

Registration for interested owners is now open. The registration is done at Copaíba and afterwards, a visit is scheduled on the property, by the institution's technical team, for the elaboration of the forest restoration project. In addition to donating the technical project, the partner owners receive seedlings and supplies to help with planting free of charge. The team monitors and guides the entire process, together with the partner owners, from soil preparation, seedling planting and maintenance of the areas.

Through Verde Novo, Copaíba has already supported the restoration of more than 175 hectares of new forests. “Green Novo is a project of extreme ecological importance for our region. It is through it that we have advanced in environmental conservation and positively impacted the watersheds in which we operate. More than 270 thousand seedlings have already been planted”, comments Flávia Balderi, project coordinator.

For the project coordinator, Petrobras' sponsorship came at an excellent time. “It's time to leverage forest restoration around here. We need massive and quick actions to reverse the degradation situation in our region. Especially after so many fires that occurred in this last drought”, comments the coordinator.
