Students celebrate Arbor Day with seed planting and environmental awareness activities
Arbor Day was celebrated this month in a special way at the Associação Ambientalista Copaíba, where children served by the Vem Ser Program participated in seed planting activities and had the opportunity to learn about the importance of trees and environmental preservation.
The date, celebrated on September 21st, aims to raise awareness in society about the relevance of trees for the balance of the ecosystem and everyone's quality of life. The Vem Ser Program, which is governmental and linked to the citizenship secretariat and Cras, offers children workshops in dance, music, Portuguese reinforcement, mathematics reinforcement, crafts, physical education, theater and, they took advantage of the opportunity to develop a differentiated project: collection of recyclable waste and care for the environment.
“To make it much more interesting, the Copaíba Environmental Association opened its doors to our group, who can truly feel how responsible we are for everything that happens on our planet. Our children embarked on an unforgettable adventure, a journey that not only nurtured their passions for nature, but also planted the seeds of environmental awareness and commitment.” – comments Sônia Aparecida de Souza Rocha, coordinator of the VemSer Program, who was present at the activities carried out at the Association.
The project started even before the visit. The children collected empty milk cartons, which would be discarded, and transformed them into containers that would receive the seeds for planting, which is called a “cradle”. During the visit, everyone got their hands dirty, filled their boxes with soil and planted seeds of three species native to the Atlantic Forest: Dedaleiro, Algodoeiro and Paineira.
These seeds will be looked after by the children and when they germinate and are ready to go to the field, the Vem Ser Program will donate them so they can be planted in a suitable location.
“With their little hands dirty with dirt and their hearts full of hope, our children are planting the future. They promised to care for these seeds as if they were their children, water them with love and protect nature with dedication. These lessons not only enlighten your minds, but also light the way to a greener and more sustainable tomorrow. The Vem Ser Program and the NGO Copaíba prove that together we can make a difference. We, as a community, commit to supporting your initiatives and continuing to educate our future generations about the importance of taking care of our environment. Let's all celebrate this journey of discovery, growth and commitment to a greener, healthier future. Together, we are cultivating a legacy of love for nature and environmental responsibility that transcends generations. After all, our commitment to the environment is the most valuable inheritance we can leave to our children.” – added Sônia Rocha.
With the active involvement of students and the commitment of the Vem Ser Program to educating for environmental preservation, the local community has reasons to be proud of the positive impact they are having on the world and in the formation of future generations.
Copaíba, in this month of the tree, has already reached more than 350 participants in its Experiences and intends to involve another 400 participants by the end of the month between visits, plantings and lectures. To participate, contact us via email: [email protected] and WhatsApp: 19 99953-8382.
