The project “Forest Restoration of springs and tributary streams of the Rio do Peixe”, carried out by Associação Ambientalista Copaíba, with financial resources from FEHIDRO (State Fund for Water Resources of the State of São Paulo), through the Mogi Guaçu River Basin Committee started in 2016.

This project aims to contribute to the restoration of riparian forests in the Rio do Peixe basin, an important tributary of the Mogi Guaçu River. To carry out this work, Copaíba has the support of the Clickarvore Program of Fundação SOS Mata Atlântica.

Since the beginning of the project, 16,200 tree seedlings of native Atlantic Forest species have been planted around three springs and on the banks of three tributary streams of the Rio do Peixe, in Socorro, SP.

These seedlings, in a few years' time, will form a 10-hectare forest, that is, another 100,000 m2 of areas are being restored by the institution. This is equivalent to an area larger than 10 official football fields.

For Copaíba, forest restoration in these areas is essential for the conservation of the Atlantic Forest. Thanks to partnerships with landowners, it is possible to transform these landscapes, forming forests to conserve flora, fauna, soil, biodiversity, water and also the quality of life of the population.
