The association emphasizes the importance of public policies, social engagement, and concrete actions for the preservation of the Atlantic Forest during the Conference.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

The Atlantic Forest, one of the most biodiverse biomes on the planet, faces increasingly critical challenges in the face of climate change. With only 12.41 Tb\/h of its original coverage preserved, the biome is fundamental for water regulation, carbon sequestration, and the maintenance of biodiversity. Its degradation represents not only an irreversible ecological loss, but also a direct risk to climate resilience and the quality of life of millions of Brazilians.<\/span><\/p>\n

In this context, the 30th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP30), which will take place next month in Bel\u00e9m, Par\u00e1, emerges as a strategic forum to discuss and implement concrete actions aimed at preserving the Atlantic Forest. Between November 10th and 11th, the event will address topics such as Adaptation, Cities, Infrastructure, Water, Waste, Local Governments, Bioeconomy, Circular Economy and Tourism, laying the groundwork for climate preparedness and resilience in different systems, sectors, communities and regions.<\/span><\/p>\n

Copa\u00edba, an environmental association with 26 years of experience, has the Atlantic Forest at the center of its institutional mission, dedicating itself entirely to the conservation and restoration of this biome. The two hydrographic basins where the organization operates\u2014the basins of the Peixe and Camanducaia rivers\u2014are entirely within the Atlantic Forest biome, which reinforces the entity's direct commitment to its preservation.<\/span><\/p>\n

As a member of initiatives such as the Atlantic Forest Restoration Pact and associated with the Atlantic Forest NGO Network (RMA), Copa\u00edba argues that, especially at this forum, authorities should recognize the urgency of robust public policies and governance strategies capable of concretely supporting the conservation and recovery of the biome. For the association, COP30 should be a space to consolidate effective preservation actions, including the creation of financing mechanisms for ecological restoration, incentives for applied research, participatory scientific monitoring, and the integration of the Atlantic Forest into national climate mitigation and adaptation plans.<\/span><\/p>\n

In addition to policies and funding, Copa\u00edba emphasizes that the active participation of civil society, environmental organizations, and the private sector is crucial for achieving conservation goals. The association believes that community mobilization and environmental education are pillars for ensuring that the restoration of the biome is not just a legal commitment, but a sustainable and permanent practice.<\/span><\/p>\n

We also hope that the Atlantic Forest Conference, held as part of the COP30 on Biomes, will contribute to strengthening climate governance in Brazil and highlight the importance of the biome on the national climate agenda. The Atlantic Forest House, an initiative of the Atlantic Forest NGO Network (RMA) \u2014 of which Copa\u00edba is a member \u2014 will play a fundamental role as a space dedicated to the voice of the biome during COP30, promoting collective actions and debates on conservation, restoration and sustainable economic valuation strategies.<\/span><\/p>\n

Given this scenario, Copa\u00edba expresses its full support for the inclusion of the Atlantic Forest on the COP30 agenda. The ecological restoration of the biome is essential to mitigate the effects of climate change, guarantee vital environmental services, and strengthen biodiversity. The association emphasizes that only through effective public policies, social engagement, and cooperation between different sectors will it be possible to ensure a sustainable future for the Atlantic Forest and, consequently, for the planet.<\/span><\/p>\n

COP30 therefore represents a historic opportunity. More than discussing goals and numbers, it is the moment to translate commitments into concrete actions, ensuring that the Atlantic Forest ceases to be merely a symbolic issue and becomes a concrete priority on the Brazilian and global climate agenda.<\/span><\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
