This review is carried out through the “Plan for the Mogi Guaçu River Watershed”. The last diagnosis carried out by the Committee will provide subsidies to plan actions for the coming years, from 2016 to 2019.

In the Master Plan for the Mogi Guaçu River Watershed (2008-2011 revision), 16 (sixteen) goals were proposed that, according to the Executive Secretary of CBH-MOGI, Marcus Vinícius, when compared with the indicators of the 2014 Situation Report , although some goals have not been fully achieved, in general there is progress in meeting the 16 stipulated goals. According to the Secretary himself, “the revisions of the Plan contribute to the monitoring of these actions and, thus, to make an analysis of how much and how the goals are being achieved”.

Among the short-term goals stipulated by the Plan, it was foreseen by the CBH-MOGI, between the years 2008 to 2011, to diagnose the Permanent Preservation Areas (APPs) of the Mogi Guaçu River basin, locating and quantifying the areas in need of recovery and, in addition, recover 20 km² of APPs throughout the Mogi Guaçu basin. According to the 2014 Situation Report, the 20 Km2 recovery goal was reached in 10%, this percentage being achieved only with the contribution of Copaíba.

Of the 20 km2, which are equivalent to 2,000 hectares to be restored through the Committee, Copaíba started the restoration of almost 200 hectares (2,000,000 m2) only in the Rio do Peixe sub-basin, which represents the region upstream of the basin of the Mogi Guaçu River. The main springs that supply this river are located in these areas. In total, more than 236 thousand seedlings were planted, which are distributed around 53 springs and on the banks of 34 tributary streams of the Rio do Peixe.

For the coming years, the continuity of forest restoration actions is expected through projects carried out by Copaíba. “By the end of 2015, we will be planting another 16,200 seedlings in 100,000 m2 in the Rio do Peixe neighborhood, in Socorro. These seedlings, added to so many others already planted, will contribute to improving the quantity and quality of water in our region”, comments Flávia Balderi, Copaíba's executive secretary.

These and other Copaíba activities can also be accompanied by the facebook/associacaoambientalistacopaiba

[1

post-5001","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-sem-categoria
["GET
