More than 10 soccer fields will be restored in the Rio do Peixe neighborhood<\/p>\n
In the middle of that year, the Copa\u00edba Environmentalist Association and the S\u00e3o Paulo State Government's Water Resources Sanitation Department signed a new contract for the execution of the project "Forest Restoration of springs and tributary streams of the Rio do Peixe" (Mogi 476 - Contract No. 186\/2015).<\/p>\n
This project financed by Fehidro also has the support of the Clickarvore Program of Funda\u00e7\u00e3o SOS Mata Atl\u00e2ntica. It aims to contribute to the restoration of riparian forests in the Rio do Peixe basin, an important tributary of the Mogi Gua\u00e7u River.<\/p>\n
Planting will begin in this rainy season. There will be plants of 16,200 seedlings of native trees that will form new forests and contribute to the connection of existing forests in the Rio do Peixe neighborhood in Socorro, more specifically in S\u00edtio S\u00e3o Sebasti\u00e3o, belonging to the Tasca family.<\/p>\n
In all, through this action, 10 hectares will be restored around three springs and on the banks of three tributary streams of the Peixe River. Currently, these areas are occupied by pastures, with the soil degraded in many parts, which will favor erosion control and improve the quality and quantity of water on the property. For the Forest Restoration Coordinator at Copa\u00edba, Ana Paula Balderi, the project \u201cForest restoration of springs and tributary streams of the Rio do Peixe\u201d will strongly contribute to the continuity of conservation of the Rio do Peixe watershed, as the area to be restored is extremely important due to its geographic location. \u201cConsequently, the benefits of forest restoration carried out on the property will be shared by the entire microbasin\u201d, comments Ana Paula.<\/p>\n
Copa\u00edba has been carrying out several actions aimed at conserving water resources since 2005. Since then, the institution has maintained 52.2 hectares (522 thousand m2) of native forest in the process of restoration.
