The recovery of a forest or \u201cforest restoration\u201d is a slow process and depends on knowledge and technical experience in this area to achieve good results. To start forest restoration, it is first necessary to prepare the soil and then plant the seedlings. For this, many other activities are part of these actions, such as selection of the most suitable species for planting, control of leaf-cutting ants, soil correction, seedling fertilization, among others.<\/p>\n
But within this process, planting is just the beginning. \u201cIt is not enough just to plant. The maintenance of seedlings is essential for successful planting\u201d, comments Ana Paula Balderi, coordinator of forest restoration at Copa\u00edba.<\/p>\n
In addition to maintenance, which is post-planting care, monitoring of the planted areas is also part of the day-to-day of this work. Periodically, the areas are visited especially for monitoring forest restoration. It is from the monitoring that the development of the areas is evaluated, if they are well or if they need other care.<\/p>\n
This season, inspections were carried out at 40 partner properties. The areas visited were planted two or three years ago. These are properties that had Copa\u00edba's support for forest recovery. Data analysis has not yet been completed, but according to the technical team, most of the seedlings are developing well, that is, the planted seedlings are forming forests.<\/p>\n
