It takes years to get results from this action. The project “Forest Restoration of springs and tributary streams of the Rio do Peixe”, carried out by Copaíba, with financial resources from FEHIDRO (State Fund for Water Resources of the State of São Paulo), through the Mogi Guaçu River Hydrographic Basin Committee, did not is different. It began in March 2016 and to this day the forest restoration team carries out actions in the area.

Recently, both the technical team and the field team were once again carrying out monitoring and maintenance actions for the more than 16 thousand seedlings planted in 10 hectares of Permanent Preservation Areas.

To maintain the area, it is necessary to control Brachiaria, which grows very fast and can compete with seedlings in the field. In addition, fertilizers are used to help the seedlings grow and control leaf-cutting ants, which can harm the seedlings if they are out of balance with the environment.

This project aims to contribute to the restoration of riparian forests in the Rio do Peixe basin, an important tributary of the Mogi Guaçu River. To carry out this work, Copaíba has the support of the Clickarvore Program of Fundação SOS Mata Atlântica.

Soon a new forest of more than 100,000 m2 of areas will be performing its function, that is, of soil protection, water conservation and shelter for wild fauna.

*photo: Forest restoration team

A restauração florestal é um processo lento.
