\nalso to improve the well-being of the population. For some years now, Serra Negra has received support
\nfor all of this to happen. And thanks to the interest and sensitivity of the residents, owners
\nrural and local producers, that the municipality gains new forests to guarantee the quality of life
\nof many people.
\nVerde Novo, a project carried out by Copa\u00edba, sponsored by Petrobras, through the
\nPetrobras Socio-environmental Program, aims to conserve and restore the Atlantic Forest of
\nbasins of the Peixe and Camanducaia rivers, located between the south of Minas Gerais and the east of the state of S\u00e3o Paulo. Since 2010, when the project began, in the municipality of Serra Negra alone, 38,682 seedlings of native Atlantic Forest trees have been donated and planted to recover 416,000 m2 of areas. More than 20 rural properties benefit from this support.
\nThe most recent planting took place in the Rodrigues neighborhood, on the property of Daniel Chabu. In the area, 2300 seedlings were planted that will help to expand the green areas of the property. For Copa\u00edba, the forest restoration of rural properties is of fundamental importance, as it is what guarantees the return of ecological processes that no longer exist in some areas. \u201cIt is by recovering our native forests that we guarantee water quality, we avoid erosion and silting in water courses and springs, we help wild fauna to have food and shelter, and we collaborate to improve the quality of life of people who receive our support and those around them\u201d, comments Fl\u00e1via Balderi, Coordinator of Verde Novo.
