C\u00e9lio Rodrigues de Morais comes from a family of farmers. Farming entered the family many years ago.
\nyears, with their great-grandparents who came from Italy, and started the cultivation of coffee and rope tobacco to
\nhousehold sustenance. Since then, from generation to generation, the vocation to cultivate plants only
\ngrown up.
\nA resident of the Marianos neighborhood, C\u00e9lio, he spent much of his life dedicated to the site, but
\nhas also worked with several other things: in a hotel, monitoring children at school,
\nas a seed collector for the production of native seedlings. He completed his studies, graduated in
\nbiology and today, he \u201creturned to his roots\u201d and works with what makes his eyes shine: the
\norganic production. In his garden, he produces a little of everything, vegetables, fruits, roots, vegetables,
\n\u201cSeparating the products for the fair, we came to list twenty different items of our production\u201d, says
\nhe satisfied.
\nBut in the midst of so much variety, tomato production is his favorite. \u201cThe farm is beautiful.
\ntomato. Also, it's a big challenge to produce it. We are few producers of a fruit that
\neveryone wants to have it on the table, in their salad\u201d, says C\u00e9lio.
\nRural life has its challenges. Unseasonal heavy rains, poorly defined seasons and
\nso many other adversities. \u201cAlthough today we have more inputs and technology, we feel that our
\nbiggest challenge is climate change. 20 years ago, when we started, the challenges were different and the
\norganic agriculture was little known\u201d.
\nC\u00e9lio is an example to be followed. For those who identify so much with plants, there was no lack of
\ninspiration for him to keep planting. In addition to his vegetables, C\u00e9lio is also a planter of
\nforest and knows the value that native forests have on their property. \u201cNature provides a service to
\npeople, which is free, and not always people or producers appreciate it. Water, pollination,
\nbiological control of pests in our farming. This is priceless\u201d, comments C\u00e9lio.
\nMay C\u00e9lio's example inspire more people to maintain a healthy and harmonious relationship
\nwith nature. Because as he himself says, \u201corganic agriculture is a partner of the environment.
\nIt is good for everyone, for those who plant, for those who consume and also for nature\u201d.
