The female role in forest restoration has gained increasing strength. Copa\u00edba, in addition to being an NGO where more than half of the team is made up of women in different sectors, also increasingly relies on the support and partnership of landowners and rural producers. Madalena Oliveira is one of these owners and in addition to participating in the Verde Novo project sponsored by Petrobras through the Petrobras Socioambiental program.<\/p>\n
Madalena is the third generation of the family that has been taking care of the property and preserving the native forest. There are almost 10 ha (100,000 m\u00b2) of forest that shelter animals and conserve the water source that supplies around 12 families. The rural producers neighboring the Madalena property also benefit from the water for irrigation of the plantations.<\/p>\n
Five years ago, the owner planted seedlings of native trees supplied by Verde Novo on the banks of the Camanducaia River, which flows through the property, with the help of her son. \u201cThe seedlings are already big, there are wild animals living there. It is also possible to see the regeneration of the trees and the erosion on the riverbank no longer happens\u201d comments Madalena.<\/p>\n
The owner and also a collaborator of Copa\u00edba wants to plant more trees.
