The program will restore a total of 100 ha of forest by 2022 with the aim of identifying and restoring riparian forests in the Mogi Guaçu River basin and its tributaries, helping to conserve water resources.

For this, an analysis was developed that highlights the main areas for restoration in the basin territory, focusing on water conservation. Through local partnerships, the program seeks to mobilize and support landowners located in these areas and together carry out the restoration of their springs and streams.

The Program was created by WWF and International Paper and here in the Rio do Peixe basin, Copaíba is a partner and executor of the restoration of the areas together with the landowners. The first plantings will be carried out on properties in the municipalities of Socorro (SP), Lindóia (SP) and Bueno Brandão (MG).

“The Raízes do Mogi Program is the result of partnerships that add strength and expertise that provide a great opportunity to support rural landowners in the region to protect their springs and bring their property into line with the law. The benefits of this restoration encompass the population of the entire basin. In addition to the recovery of riparian forests, they help in the formation of ecological corridors, also contributing to the conservation of fauna.”, says Mayra Flores Tavares, Forest Restoration Coordinator at the Copaíba Environmentalist Association.

Present at the plantation were members of Copaíba, Felipe Feliciani from WWF, representatives of Internacional Paper, volunteers and owner Vânia Godoy who commented on the joy of reforesting the property “I am very excited about this project! I have always preserved the property and wanted to reforest areas that did not have native forest. Now I managed to fulfill that dream and it is a pride, a satisfaction to be able to put it into practice”.

The planting also marked Copaíba's participation in the “6D I'ts Now” movement. The largest chain of climate actions in history, with the participation of more than 600 organizations around the world. The movement aimed to promote awareness of climate change and the threat it poses to the future of humanity at the same time as the COP25 (25th Conference of the Parties), in Madrid, Spain, where world leaders discussed the future of the planet in terms of climate change and sustainable development.

[1

post-4023","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-sem-categoria
["GET
