In 2019, Associa\u00e7\u00e3o Ambientalista Copa\u00edba entered into a partnership with several landowners from 15 municipalities in its area of operation, between the basins of the Rios do Peixe and Camanducaia. The reforestation of several properties took place through the project carried out by the institution, Verde Novo, which is sponsored by Petrobras through the Petrobras Socioambiental program.<\/p>\n
There are more than 68 hectares (680,000m\u00b2) in the process of forest restoration with a total of 110 thousand native Atlantic Forest seedlings planted. This number is the result of the effort and concern of the project participants to take care of the springs of their properties, increase the native forest to benefit plantations and care for nature.<\/p>\n
A total of 61 owners received seedlings free of charge and technical support was given guidance on planting and maintenance of areas undergoing restoration. The coordinator of forest restoration at Copa\u00edba, Mayra Flores, reinforces the importance of this partnership: \u201cThe engagement and willingness of rural landowners to protect the springs and form a forest on their properties are very important for the project to succeed! These forests in formation will help in the quality of water, soil and more habitat for the wild animals of the region\u201d.<\/p>\n
