More and more women are gaining space and visibility in different segments of society. Within the forest restoration chain it is no different. The Verde Novo team, a project sponsored by Petrobras through the Petrobras Socioambiental program, is made up of a diverse group, but of women, who carry with them the importance of conservation and restoration of the Atlantic Forest.<\/p>\n
Verde Novo is a project carried out by the Environmentalist Association Copa\u00edba that aims to contribute to the restoration and conservation of native forests in the basins of the Peixe and Camanducaia rivers.<\/p>\n
For a forest to be formed in a degraded area, seeds and seedlings of native trees are needed. These seedlings need to be produced with quality and diversity to ensure the success of planting in the field. And that takes a lot of work.<\/p>\n
From the collection, cleaning and treatment of seeds, sowing, production of seedlings, elaboration of a technical project, monitoring of seedlings in the field, control of ants, combating the grass that competes with the seedlings, all this and much more are activities that are part of the routine of eight women warriors dedicated to transforming degraded areas into new forests.<\/p>\n
Thanks to the work of these women, more than 400,000 seedlings were produced at Viveiro Florestal Copa\u00edba during 2019. And more than 100,000 seedlings were planted. Not to mention that many partner properties of the Verde Novo project are managed by women, closing the cycle of the restoration chain.<\/p>\n
All the seedlings produced and planted by Verde Novo are helping to improve the region's environmental quality and the quality of life for many people.<\/p>\n
