The pilot project is being carried out by Copaíba in the municipalities of Socorro and Águas de Lindóia through a partnership with WWF and International Paper.

To get a closer look at the execution of the project on March 3 and 4, representatives of the project partners came from the United States and followed the restoration activities for two days. Among the activities they carried out the planting of 300 seedlings, they were able to see the seedlings in the process of development in the areas already restored and one of these areas belonged to the owner Ellen, where 1,700 seedlings were planted.

Ellen is excited about the project and confident of the good results for her property and the Mogi Guaçu River. “It is a great pleasure to participate in the project! And to think that we are making our small contribution to the preservation of the springs that supply the Mogi Guaçu River. I understand that the preservation of the natural resources on our property is our duty. I am very grateful to Copaíba and partners, as they are helping me to fulfill it. It was an immense pleasure to welcome the project partners here at the site and to feel that we are all connected by the same objective, which is the preservation of life on the planet”.

Akiva Fishman, member of the WWF USA Forestry Team, also commented on the importance of the partnership between Copaíba and landowners. “Local partnerships and good engagement with rural landowners is crucial to being able to learn and scale for the restoration of tropical forests around the world. In this context, Copaíba is an important partner of Raízes do Mogi Guaçu”

Amelia Meadows, who is also part of the WWF USA team, stressed the importance of following the development of these areas “What impressed me most was the commitment of the entire team and the strong connection with the owners. The professionalism with which the team works mapping the areas, the execution and monitoring makes sure that there is a confirmation and the success of the restoration”.

The project carried out by Copaíba will plant a total of 13.5 hectares. To date, 11.3 have been planted. Want to know more about the project?
